Robert L. Dabney, a great theologian of the 19th century, warned that state schools "will enable the infidel party to triumph everywhere, to expel the Bible and Christianity from all the schools, and to rear us (so far as state schools go) a generation of Atheists." His words have proved prophetic and Christian parents must once again take control of the education of their children and put the Lord Jesus Christ back in His rightful place as the supreme authority over all knowledge and learning (Colossians 2:3,8-10). The Christian School Association (Wellington District) has been providing biblical Christian education to covenant youth for over twenty-five years. We run Hutt Valley Christian School - a small combined primary and secondary school (years 1-12) - located at Wainuiomata. Many students are brought via our bus link from Silverstream, Upper Hutt and places enroute to the Wainuiomata site.
Our educational philosophy is covenantal support in that we assist you, the parents, in fulfilling the covenantal obligations of parents towards their children as we find in Scriptures such as Ephesians 6:4 "And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath but bring them up in the fear and admonition (paideia) of the Lord."
The sad fact as recent tests have shown (PEERS testing in the US) that even most Christian schools do not successfully inculcate a biblical world and life view in their students. Christian students in government schools fare even worse - they come to hold the world view of their secular non-Christian teachers. (See pg 101-105 of D. We want to do better by our children and offer parents a schooling aimed at developing a biblical world and life view as the main goal. In other words, a Classical and Biblical Christian education.The distinct features of the educational programme offered by Hutt Valley Christian School are:
- Scripture memorisation at all levels.
- Biblical integration of subjects so as to give glory to God and build a biblical world view in the students.
- Committed and competent registered Christian teachers who personally subscribe to the Reformed faith. (see RCNZ website)
- Commitment to a young-earth, 6 24-hour day understanding of creation. (see Tas Walker's comments)
- Cambridge International Examinations used at senior secondary level in selected subjects to promote academic excellence through high expectations.
- Classical Christian educational philosophy and methodology.
- Biblical Confessional standards (i.e. Classical Protestant statements of faith) are the basis of the Constitution of the CSAWD.
- Close communication between parents and teachers via a daily diary sign-off system.
- Biblical discipline and godly behaviour standards.
- Modest annual fee (includes stationery) and generous discounts for additional enrolments from the same family.

Admission Procedure
Entry can be accepted at any year level though we recommend participation in the full curriculum to obtain the maximum benefit for your children. Prospective families will be interviewed prior to approval. A Parent-School Covenant [160KB PDF] defines the relationship for the mutual benefit of both parties.
